Before: This engaging story of hiking the 2,160 mile Appalachian Trail, a fundraiser to benefit The Sunshine Home for the Disabled, is a very human story. This cover doesn’t convey that. Even so, the book did earn three awards (see the stickers?) so now the publisher is widening their market with the third edition and the industry professionals told him to get a new cover.

After: We make clear that this is a major hike! The title rises up and to the right, along with the hiker. The author and animals appear naturally together for humor because there are funny stories involving animal encounters. The sun, placed at the right edge, emphasizes the hiker. The strong silhouettes make this cover iconic and a cornerstone for the book’s new branding.
