Before: ABCs is the brand and can be conveyed with gold blocks but using them as the title doesn’t work here, especially when they’re tumbling around. It looks like it’s about toddlers of the wealthy, putting a large demand on the authors’ time and sales skill to overcome this handicap. The dark color scheme feels heavy which works against the title‘s promise of simplicity.
After: A white background is good for crediblility. The children’s blocks are now dignified and support the title rather than compete. The subtitle’s important words are emphasized in bold red capitals. The layout’s bright openness feels optimistic and accessible while the book’s promise to the reader is clear.
